Gert Pottas

Gert completed his BMus (Performance) degree in 2012, specialising in Jazz Performance. He also obtained his Grade 7 Diploma for piano performance from the University of South Africa (Unisa). He is currently busy with his Master’s Degree (MMus) in Performance at the University of Pretoria, specialising in Choral Conducting under the leadership of Dr. Michael Barrett.

He sung in many choirs in his professional career. Some of which include: Rheinberger Chamber Choir, Singkronies Chamber Choir, Brooklyn Choral Artists. He also performed as section leader and soloist with international choirs such as Salt Lake Vocal Artists and the Chamber Choir of Scandinavia. He is proud Alumni of the World Youth Choir having completed four successful summer sessions in 2010 (Spain), 2012 (Cyprus), 2016 (Germany/ Belgium) and 2019 (France/Portugal).

Professional Choir Conductor

As a professional choir conductor his career started at a young age. At the age of 19 he conducted his first ensemble at the Dr EG Jansen Highschool. During the course of his BMus degree he obtained conductors position for many other choirs: Midstream College (2009), Wordsworth Highschool (2011), Maranatha Christian School (2011), East Rand Youth Choir (2012), Rheinberger Chamber Choir (2012), Hoërskool Jeugland Boys-and-Girls Choirs (2012) and Van Riebeeck Park Primary school Choirs (2015).

He has also attended many masterclasses and worked with world renowned conductors such as Jesep Villa (Spain), Cecilia Rydinger Alin (Sweden), Ragnar Rasmussen (Norway), Gary Graden (USA), Brady Allred (USA), Filippo Maria Bressan (Italy), Gàbor Hollerung (Hungary) and Kinga Litowska (Poland).

Love for teaching children

Throughout the course of his career he has found a love for teaching children. Not only music, but basic skills that will help them grow into respectable young adults. These findings have allowed him to bond and grow alongside the singers.

His most recent accolade as a choral conductor includes: 4 Gold and 2 Silver Diplomas at the World Choir Games 2018, Winners of the national Kyknet Sing in Harmony Competition Formal Category (2019), Category Winners and Grand Prix Winner at the 7th Copernicus Per Musicam Ad Astra Competition in Poland (2019), Category Winners and adjudicators prize at the 2nd Salzburg International Choral Celebration and Competition in Austria (2019).
